Five years, 11,391 sets, and three different athletes.

I've logged every set since April 2021. Reading it back, I can see three phases. I built muscle, then chased a powerlifting total, then let the barbell take a back seat so I could move better on a padel court. Here are ten things the log says about that.

Bodybuilding

Apr 2021 – Feb 2023 · 315 sessions

Powerlifting

Mar 2023 – Jul 2025 · 296 sessions

Padel

Aug 2025 – now · 157 sessions

The eras come from the data itself. Powerlifting starts when low-bar squats appear in March 2023. Padel starts in August 2025, when Pallof presses, rotational presses and kettlebell-style swings show up. Bodyweight is a flat 65 kg throughout, and lbs entries are converted to kg.

What the log taught me

I didn't lose strength by accident. I traded it on purpose. At peak I could deadlift over three times my bodyweight. Now I keep about 80% of that and spend the difference on lateral lunges, jumps and anti-rotation work that actually shows up on court.

The most consistent stretch was the bodybuilding era, with over three sessions a week. Since then it's been closer to two and a half, but there's more variety in what I do now than at any point in the five years.

Method
  • Session = a distinct date with at least one logged set.
  • Estimated 1RM = heaviest set of 1–10 reps per quarter, using Epley (kg × (1 + reps/30)). Singles count as-is.
  • Set mix: competition lifts and their variants count as powerlifting. Jumps, swings, Copenhagens, Pallofs, rotational and mobility work count as athletic. Everything else counts as hypertrophy and accessories.
